Walking in the rain

The rain didn't fall in Madrid, Spain this summer. It was arid, hot, and hazy but nary a drop of rain fells from the heavens. That is, until October 28, 2011 when the skies opened up and deluged Madrid with torrents of water, washing away the city's sins, and clearing up the air with the soft scent of fresh-fallen rain. To mark the momentous occasion, design collective  Luzinterruptus installed 'Walking in the Rain' which is made up of 50 overturned rain boots and galoshes which were illuminated from within. The installation was kept in place for 10 hours before the boots were removed.
On the project, Luzinterruptus stated, "Our latest, modest installation, has served to celebrate the fact that it has finally rained in Madrid after a hot summer, in which not a drop of rain had fallen. On October 26th, the clouds finally appeared in the sky, dropping all of the water accumulated during our long summer on the city and leaving in its wake a clean sky and somewhat more breathable air. With our lights we just wanted to encourage people to put on their boots, to go out for a walk and leave the car parked, at least while the rain was reducing pollution levels a little. We finished up wet but happy, with our lungs full of cleaner air."
