The Dog Mobile
hinese artist Ai Weiwei's, 'The Dog Mobile: A car for Francis Bacon' went on auction on November 29, 2011 in Hong Kong where it was expected to sell for US$200,000 to US$300,000 but attracted no bids last night. The Mercedes Benz G-class adorned with an image of an Irish wolfhound named after philosopher Francis Bacon was offered for sale at Est-Ouest Auctions' contemporary art sale at the JW Marriott Hotel ballroom which was filled with Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and foreign bidders. The Dog Mobile wasn't the only auction item that failed to attract a bid - a Lucio Fontana painting expected to sell for US$1.60 million garnered zero interest from buyers.
